Before the UPR, Advocacy has a two-fold utility: first, to amplify the voice of Civil Society and National Human Rights Institutions on their felt needs and suggestions for improvement of the current human rights situation. Secondly, provide information to other stakeholders about the status of their activities and the UPR in general.
Both utilities need to be exploited in the moments leading up to the Review, as it is the only moment in the process where CSOs and NHRI have the opportunity to design the recommendations that will be the “backbone” of the cycle. This course will explore different tactics that CSOs and NHRI can utilize to conduct advocacy actions before the Review.
